About FHM

FatHead’s Motorcycles LLC was created in 2009 by owner Matt Treptau.  Matt grew up spending most of his time either at the Barthel family farm in Saint Michael, MN or at the Treptau Implement in Corcoran, MN.  This is where his passion for anything mechanical got started.  By age 10, Matt was rebuilding carburetors on tractors.  By age 13 he was performing top end rebuilds and by age 16, completely rebuilding transmissions.  He always had a knack for technical skills and never let anything stand in his way of completing the task.

After high school, Matt decided to use his skills and pursue more knowledge about powersport machines.  He moved to Orlando, FL and attended Motorcycle Mechanics Institute.  While there he became a certified technician for Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha and always dreamed of owning his own repair shop.  After graduation, Matt moved back home and decided yet again to further his knowledge.  He decided to attend St. Cloud State University (SCSU) and obtain his Bachelors of Science in Entrepreneurship.  This degree gave Matt a background in accounting, managing, finance, marketing and business ownership.

To pay for school, Matt worked in the garage fixing just about anything he could get his hands on.  From weed whips to motorcycles, he has seen it all.  One of his first bikes to work on was a full restoration of a 1978 Yamaha RD400.  In his last year of school he decided that he would build one for himself.  He built the 1977 Yamaha RD400 featured on this website and shortly after graduating from SCSU, Matt launched FatHead’s Motorcycles LLC.  He created FHM to give customers quality service at a fair price.
